Last month a friend I had not seen for months asked me if I had read ‘Kafka on the Shore’ by Haruki Murakami, I hadn’t, but it sounded familiar and I guessed that perhaps I had read a review of it.
When shortly after I visited her, she showed me the book.
Seeing the cover picture I thought I might have the book at home and actually as a joint birthday present from her and another friend. But I said nothing.
At home when I opened the bookshelf - that has doors with glass upper parts - there it was below and behind the wooden part of the door with the cat/cover facing outwards waiting to be read for all this time since my last birthday; a present forgotten by both the giver and the receiver. (more…)
