Last night

My late mother and I got off the train

in Baghdad

Only

She wasn’t late

this time

We walked along a deep blue river

on our left

on an endless

Roman road

And on our right

earth coloured buildings

And then there were

Miniature mountains

and summits

covered with snow

and I was wondering

they were so c lose

but looked so far away

When ruins started

along the endless road

I remembered it was war

and thought we were

somewhere else

perhaps in south

of Iraq

and said to my mum

let’s return

and try the other side

of the station

The river

was on some spots

higher than the road

and turned to a wall

–earth colour –

on the road side

or was flowing

above those walls

which made me

say something

about the ancient

walls

of Babylon.

And the buildings

or structures

became anc ient

This was before

we turned back

and I woke up.

The river was deep blue

like a pair of

beautiful Irish eyes

and I walked

on the face of that

land

with burned spots

carved into it

by many coloured

ugly hands.

Saddam Bin Bush

fundamentalists

Moslem and Christian

monotheist bullshitters

in Ishtar’s Land

the goddess of moon

and waters

watching the fires

making spots

in the dry lands

and blood spilling

into her deep blue veins

flowing to the

Nomansoceans

where she lies

deep

in our subconscious

where we know

what is wrong

and rise up

against the wars

And although

religions

seem to have been

the cause of most wars

Throughout the history

It’s clear

religion is no more

the ‘opium of the masses’

but only a cover

for gods of coins

and a distraction

for the poor

and if Saddam Bin Bush

Rumsfeld c rave Power

Oh Ishtar

Take them off the throne

and give them

the Cow’s milk

in the bottle

and let them grow to oblivion

and a nightmare

of the past

and playful babies

of the future

And if that deep blue

river

can calm me down

and turn me

perceptive

to the shine of today’s sun

let it appear

in the dreams of all

soldiers

and their bosses

so that we may

all live in peace

and die

without spilling blood

‘Cause I know

you fought other gods

just to save

all species

and your story

was stolen

by the sc ribes

to turn to Noah’s story.

So oh Ishtar

I give you the credit

and please please

save this land

from desert to waters

from mountains

to sands.

It’s our earth

it needs your blessing

and your merciful command

which lies

in all of us

dormant.
